Lester Brown Outlines a path toward sustainability: Plan B 4.0
Lester Brown is the founder of the Earth Policy Institute, an organization dedicated to planning a sustainable future and providing a road map to get there. Brown advocates a plan that could cut global carbon emissions 80 percent by the year 2020. On Thursday, November 11, he will speak in Portland, Oregon.
THERE ARE SUBSTITUTES FOR OIL, BUT NONE FOR FOOD
Illahee and The Natural Step Network-USA will host a special breakfast presentation, There are substitutes for oil, but none for food, featuring Lester Brown. Brown is the author of over 50 books including Plan B 4.0 Mobilizing to Save Civilization. Energy, food, climate, public health, poverty issues are all connected. And so is the solution.
“The United States completely restructured its economy within months once it decided to enter World War II, changing the course of the war. We, too, can change the world, but we need to start now. The choice is ours—yours and mine—to either adopt Plan B and move the world onto a path of sustainability or go along with business as usual and allow further destruction of our natural support systems. The choice will be made by our generation, but it will affect life on earth for all generations to come.”
Plan B reveals how we can replace fossil-fuel-based, automobile-centered, take-make-waste economy with a new model. A Plan B economy will be powered by abundant sources of renewable energy: wind, solar, geothermal, hydro power, and bio fuels.
“Oil wells go dry and coal seams run out, but for the first time since the Industrial Revolution began we are investing in energy sources that can last forever.”
Please join us for this unique opportunity to hear and discuss what actions Brown believes are essential to achieve a sustainable society.
